Budgeting (Assessment fail or Success ) Inspired by Hillbilly stories
Budgeting
Once
upon a time ago I got a contract to perform Vulnerability Assessment. My client
was a giant international company (name and industry have been kept a secret). I
will be diving you all just right into where my problem started “Improper
budgeting” was done. Actually, I was having a time restriction barrier. I was
unable to do proper budgeting and missed Valuable info it is like I didn’t put the pigeon in the right hole. I confused myself and didn’t record costing in my database.
I didn’t know costing was done according to per asset or IP range due to some
miscommunication and also time restriction it was mess-up without keeping the
track I had forwarded quotation. Somehow hitting around the bush I was able to knit all the required info and forwarded it to the client. The client was very happy
because he got the expertise of the field with the lowest quotation. Later I realized
that I have done poor Budgeting to perform Vulnerability Assessment. Like the demon (Background) process
in my mind, there was a plan to invest money to renew my expired tools subscriptions
once I get an advance payment. Like a binary bit, it turned to 0.
For time being allow me to get out of the guiltiness of my mistakes by making a room to praise myself, I use, “Best industries standard tools”. The tools maintenance itself is costly affairs but due to the low Budgeting issue, I have to postpone the tool subscription. I contacted my client and told my problem and requested can we go for an Open source tool. My client glance for a while and said there is a big no from his side. Then I have to borrow the tools from my friend and yes we shared the Income and that’s how I overcome the critical situation. Finally, I submitted the report and got a big thumbs up because of severe vulnerability disclosures in the report and that was my happy movement of that journey.
